This thesis attempts to compare the social themes in selected poems of Adrienne Rich and Forough Farrokhzad. as an eminent Persian poet Forough,tried a lot to discuss social context and explain freely about her personal issues throughout her poems. Adrienne Rich as an important figure of American literature, strived to break the restrictions which are man made. The methodology of this research is based on American comparative literature which examines the similarities of social themes in poetry of these two above mentioned poets. The poets are the voice of women, so it is necessary to compare Rich and Farrokhzad who talked about the women’s issues which are unresolved issues even nowadays. They, as female figures, discuss more the problems of women which they have experienced themselves in their lifetime. The thesis also tries to show the influence of masculine milieu on women who were always under the influence of male-dominated society in which female poets were not significant and ignored. They both also experienced other social problems which then affected in composing their poetry. The researcher, by examining the common horizons of poetry and the thoughts of two poets, and looking at common theme of their poetry, cites Persian and English examples of Farrokhzad and Rich's poems. Then concludes that how two poets, in spite of the fact that the distance between them and the lack of knowledge of each other, they can be similar in many aspects.
